Preaching Christ from the Old Testament

Justin RuddyApril 20, 2011

This past week at The Gospel Coalition’s national conference, I had the chance to sit in on a roundtable discussion about preaching Christ from the Old Testament, the broader theme of the conference. The discussion included Tim Keller, Don Carson, John Piper, and others. You can download the audio of this discussion on The Gospel Coalition’s website. The video should be available soon.

My curiosity was piqued when, near the end of the conversation, Tim Keller quickly recommended a four-volume set of books called Promise and Deliverance by S.G. De Graaf. Being a bit of a bibliophile, particularly in regard to the topic of biblical theology, I was a bit surprised by the mention of a monumental work that I was unaware of. So, I went searching. Here’s what I found.

De Graaf’s books are mostly out of print, but a few sets are available from WTS Books for a whopping $97. The reason for this post is that all four volumes of De Graaf’s project are available online in PDF format at Paideia Books’ website,(or here, here, here, and here).

After a glance at the format and contents, this looks to be a potentially vital resource for the pastor seeking to rightly proclaim Christ from all of Scripture. I, for one, am looking forward to digging in to this under-heralded resource. Enjoy.
